Create your future

Do you feel bad when you watch a rerun of a show on television to kill time? Do you also wish the day had a little more than 24 hours? We have so much to do that we see lack of time. And some days we find things to engage us to kill time. Does this happen to you? It happens to me.

We all wish we had more time to pause and reflect on small decisions and big goals—and everything in between. We live and work in a vortex of tasks, meetings, and responsibilities and rarely get the chance to step back and reflect on important decisions or goals.

When you’re finished changing, you’re finished. — Ben Franklin

Habits can be developed in the cracks and crevices of your busy day. Here are four basic strategies to develop good habits into your daily work and life.

Define the purpose

Develop a stronger why of the addition to this new habit and envision the change it will bring. Like losing weight or enhancing concentration or focus to accomplish the work quickly and efficiently to create more time for self.

Bring an ease

This is the key to sustaining and bringing consistency. We like it easy and simple. Hence the process of developing habit also needs to be simple. Like to develop the habit of writing journal every morning, keep your journal next to your favorite coffee mug you have your daily morning tea. Or If you wish to go for a run the next morning keeping the running shoes next to your bed (for both of the activities, you will need to get up a little early).

One at a time

It is important to start one at a time. Do not overwhelm yourself. Take one day at a time. Take one good habit at one time. Break the activities into smaller and achievable. Make it more fun. Set target for the next day and then the next day. It is said it takes 66 days to develop a new habit.

Track till you succeed

Until you measure yourself against a target you will not know the progress you have made. Keep a daily tracker in your journal or on your phone app and watch your progress towards adding a new good habit. Effectiveness can be practiced until it becomes a habit. Effective people know where their time goes.
